Coastal Centres for Running, Yoga and Beach Training

Three centres on three beaches, each with a timber deck for classes, a strength area on the sand, hot showers, lockers, a physiotherapy room and a coffee counter. Sessions run from before sunrise until after dark: coached running groups on the firm sand at low tide, yoga and mobility on the deck, strength circuits with sandbags and ropes, sea swimming with a guide through the winter, and rehabilitation work with a physiotherapist for anyone coming back from injury. Drop in for a single class or train here every day.

About us

Training Outside, Properly Organised

The first centre started as a running group of nine people meeting on a car park at seven in the morning. What turned it into a business was not the coaching but the boring infrastructure: somewhere to leave a bag, a hot shower afterwards, a coffee, and a coach who wrote a plan rather than simply running fast at the front. Everything we have built since is an extension of that idea — outdoor training with the practical support that usually only exists inside a gym.

The coast is the whole point. Firm sand at low tide is easier on joints than asphalt and harder work than a treadmill; soft sand builds strength that no machine reproduces; the sea provides cold-water recovery on demand; and the light at either end of the day does something for people that a strip-lit room never will. Sessions are timed against the tide table rather than a fixed calendar, so the running groups always get the firm band and the yoga deck is never underwater.

Our coaches hold recognised qualifications in athletics, strength training, yoga and lifesaving, and two physiotherapists work across the three sites. We publish the qualifications of everyone who takes a class. Beyond the timetable we run free community sessions for over-sixty-fives and for teenagers, look after two kilometres of dune fencing with the municipality, and clear the beach before the first session every Monday morning.

Advantages

Why People Train Here Instead of a Gym

Six reasons attendance holds up in February, which is the only test that matters.

Sessions Timed to the Tide

Running on firm wet sand is one of the kindest surfaces there is; running on soft dry sand is one of the hardest. Both are useful, and which one you get depends entirely on the tide. Our timetable is written against the tide tables a month ahead, so speed sessions land on the firm band, strength work uses the soft sand deliberately, and the deck classes never clash with a high spring tide. Members receive the timings by message each week, and nothing is ever moved without notice.

Real Facilities, Not a Meeting Point

Each centre has hot showers with proper pressure, changing rooms, lockers, a drying area for wetsuits and kit, toilets, drinking water, a physiotherapy room and a counter serving coffee and something to eat after a session. Bicycles can be locked inside the fence, and there is space to leave a pushchair. These are the things that decide whether somebody trains before work in November, and they are the reason our winter attendance is roughly eighty per cent of the summer figure.

Coaching With a Plan Behind It

Groups follow a written training block rather than an improvised session each week, with clear progression, easy weeks built in and a stated purpose for every workout. New members get an assessment, a realistic starting point and a plan they can follow on the days they train alone. Coaches watch technique and correct it quietly, and nobody is pushed into a pace that guarantees injury. Anyone who wants to race is prepared for a specific date; anyone who does not is never made to feel odd.

Physiotherapy on Site

Two physiotherapists hold clinics at the centres, which means a niggle can be assessed the same week rather than after a month of hoping. They work directly with the coaches, so a modified plan arrives immediately instead of a blanket instruction to rest. Rehabilitation sessions run in small groups on the sand and in the water, and returning members are moved back into normal training in stages rather than being cleared and abandoned. Appointments are open to non-members as well.

Sea Swimming Done Safely

Guided swims run all year with a qualified lifeguard in the water, a safety board alongside, tow floats for everyone and a strict rule about entry and exit points. Winter sessions are short by design and followed immediately by a hot shower and a warm room, with clear guidance on cold-water adaptation rather than bravado. Beginners are taught how to breathe through the first minute of cold, and nobody is ever encouraged to stay in longer than they should.

Membership Without Traps

Monthly membership can be cancelled with one month's notice, is frozen free of charge for injury or travel, and includes every class on the timetable rather than a tiered system. Drop-in prices are published and reasonable, ten-session cards do not expire, and there is no joining fee. Free places are kept at every session for people who cannot afford the fee, allocated quietly through a local charity. Nobody is sold personal training they do not need.

Services

What Is on the Timetable

Running, yoga, strength, swimming, rehabilitation and programmes for groups and companies.

Coached Running Groups

Four ability groups meeting five times a week on the firm sand and the coast path, from a walk-run group for complete beginners to an interval session for people chasing a time. Each block runs for ten weeks with a stated goal, easy weeks built in and a written plan for the days between sessions. Coaches carry a first-aid kit and a phone, routes are chosen for tide and light, and headtorches and reflective vests are supplied in winter at no charge.

Yoga, Pilates and Mobility

Classes on the covered timber deck facing the water, from sunrise vinyasa and slow evening sessions to pilates, mobility for runners and a gentle class designed for older participants and anyone returning from injury. Mats, blocks, straps and blankets are provided, classes are capped at sixteen, and the deck is heated in winter with windbreaks on three sides. Teachers hold recognised qualifications and their training is listed on the timetable rather than described vaguely.

Beach Strength and Circuits

Strength sessions on the sand using sandbags, kettlebells, ropes, sleds and bodyweight, structured in blocks that progress properly rather than changing randomly each week. Soft sand is used deliberately for hill-style work, and technique is coached individually. Sessions run at three intensities so that a first-timer and a competitive athlete can train side by side without either being wasted. All equipment is provided, and the area is covered by a shade sail in summer.

Sea Swimming and Cold Water

Guided open-water swims year-round with lifeguard cover, tow floats, marked entry and exit points and a hot shower waiting. Beginner sessions teach sighting, breathing and dealing with chop; winter sessions focus on safe cold-water exposure with short, controlled immersions and proper rewarming. Wetsuits can be hired, and a swim-run session combines the two disciplines along the coast. All swimmers are counted in and out of the water every time.

Physiotherapy and Return to Training

Assessment, treatment and rehabilitation with physiotherapists who work alongside the coaching team, available to members and to anyone else. Services include running gait analysis on the sand, strength testing, injury rehabilitation in small groups, and staged return-to-training plans coordinated with your coach. Appointments are usually available within a few days, and reports are written in plain language so that you understand what is wrong and what will fix it.

Retreats, Companies and Events

Weekend retreats combining running, yoga, swimming and food, run twice a season with accommodation nearby. Companies can book morning sessions for staff, and we run a corporate membership used by several local employers. We also organise a beach race series, a winter swim event and free community classes for older residents and teenagers. Groups and clubs visiting the coast can book coached sessions and use of the facilities by arrangement.
